Reviving Community Growth Through Partnerships & Content
Challenge
During the pandemic, the IGDA LA chapter went dormant. Partnerships with studios, universities, and industry organizations were paused, and member engagement dropped significantly. Rebuilding meant more than restarting events—it required re-establishing the brand’s footprint in a competitive, fast-evolving market, reigniting member interest, and reactivating high-value partnerships to fuel long-term growth.
Approach
As one of the chapter leaders and a member of the marketing committee:
🚀 Reactivated & Expanded Strategic Partnerships — Reconnected with past partners and developed new alliances with studios, tech organizations, and universities to unlock co-marketing opportunities, broaden acquisition channels, and increase reach.
🚀 Designed an Audience-First Engagement Roadmap — Leveraged behavioral data and community feedback to shape programming that resonated with post-pandemic audience needs and industry trends.
🚀 Executed Multi-Channel Content Marketing — Created platform-specific campaigns, promotional assets, and event recaps to maximize visibility across owned and social channels, driving attendance and strengthening brand loyalty.
🚀 Planned & Delivered Signature Events — Co-created physical and virtual experiences—competitions, networking events, and expert panels—designed to showcase industry expertise, attract new members, and deepen engagement with existing ones.
🚀 Applied Data-Driven Optimization — Tracked KPIs, event analytics, and partner activations to measure impact, identify improvement opportunities, and refine future programming for sustained growth.
Impact
The revitalized IGDA LA chapter re-established itself as a recognized leader in the local game development ecosystem. Strategic partnerships amplified reach and credibility, while targeted content marketing and curated events drove measurable increases in attendance, membership acquisition, and retention.
Takeaways
When growth strategies are anchored in strategic partnerships and platform-optimized content marketing, they not only accelerate brand awareness but also create a self-sustaining community engine. In a growth-stage company, these skills directly translate to building market share, nurturing customer loyalty, and creating high-impact acquisition channels that compound over time.
The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is the world’s largest nonprofit membership organization serving the global game development community. Los Angeles is one of the top three gaming cities in North America—and arguably the number one in the U.S. for esports, talent, and game development—making a strong IGDA presence in LA critical for both community engagement and strategic industry partnerships.
